Daily Itinerary:

Day 1: Departure from the USA 

Day 2: Rome  Meet your CHA Tour Director at the airport and drive to your hotel. Later, get better acquainted with Rome on a CHA Walking Tour.

Day 3: Rome-(Catacombs)  Discover the Eternal City’s many treasures with the help of your guide. In Vatican City, sightseeing includes visits to St. Peter’s Basilica to see Michelangelo’s “Pieta” and the Sistine Chapel to admire the artist’s superbly painted ceiling. Learn more about the ancient Roman civilization as you see the ruins of the Roman Forum, admire the Arch of Constantine, and visit the mighty Colosseum. On your free afternoon, opt for a visit to the ancient underground catacombs.

Day 4: Rome-Naples-Sorrento  Follow the Highway of the Sun to Naples where sightseeing features a visit to the National Archaeological Museum to view its superb collection of Greco-Roman antiquities. Later, proceed to cliffside Sorrento.

Day 5: Sorrento-Capri-(Blue Grotto)-Sorrento  Board your ferry to Capri where guided sightseeing includes a visit to the Gardens of Augustus. During your free time, opt for a boat ride through the Blue Grotto (weather permitting).

Day 6: Sorrento-Pompeii-Overnight Ferry to Greece  Travel to ancient Pompeii, once buried by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., for a tour of its well-preserved excavations. Proceed to Italy’s Adriatic coast to board your overnight ferry to Greece.

Day 7: Cruising-Patras  Enjoy splendid scenery as you cross the Ionian Sea to Patras, busy capital of the Peloponnese.

Day 8: Patras-Mycenae-Epidaurus-Athens  Travel to Mycenae for visits to the Lion Gate, the Tombs of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and the Circle Grave where the Golden Mask of King Agamemnon was found. Later, visit the Theatre at Epidaurus to hear its spectacular acoustics before proceeding to Athens.

Day 9: Athens-(Athens by Night Tour & Greek Taverna)  This morning’s guided tour of Athens reveals the Old Royal Palace, the Academy and the University. Explore the hilltop Acropolis as you visit the Parthenon, a masterpiece of Doric architecture, and the Theatre of Dionysius, where classic Greek dramas such as “Oedipus Rex” were once performed. Also included is a visit to the National Archaeological Museum. (If not open, you will visit the Acropolis Museum.) Tonight, opt for a drive through Athens and a delicious dinner at a traditional Greek taverna.

Day 10: Departure or Cruise Extension  Board your return flight or opt to extend your stay with a three-day Greek-Island Cruise ($595) including stops in Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos, Heraklion and Santorini. (Optional shore excursions may be purchased on board.) N.B. When operated in reverse, the sightseeing of Mycenae and Epidaurus will be time permitting due to ferry sailing times from Patras, and an overnight in Italy will replace the overnight in Patras. The cruise itinerary is available seasonally and is subject to change at the discretion of the cruise line.
