• Executive Biography - 9/1/2013

Domenica L. Falcione is the president and co-founder of Cultural Heritage Alliance (CHA).

Falcione has spent over four decades in the educational travel industry, from the time she founded CHA with her husband in 1969. Born in Italy, she dreamed of travel as a way of expanding her horizons beyond her small town. As a teenager, Falcione was offered the opportunity to live with relatives in America to pursue her education beyond the possibilities available in her hometown.

Making the journey to Philadelphia at the age of thirteen, she learned English quickly and graduated from high school three years later, earning a full scholarship to Temple University. Falcione later earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and a Master’s Degree in Education from Temple. After earning her teaching certification, she taught Italian, French, Spanish, and Latin in Philadelphia public schools for over ten years.

A fortuitous meeting at a local Philadelphia library with Augustine Falcione would catapult her life into an even more exciting direction. Sharing a similar heritage and a love of teaching and foreign languages, Augustine was a dedicated Philadelphia high school teacher who came to America from Italy as a teenager to pursue a career in education. Together, they forged both a personal union when they married and a professional one when they joined forces to create the “Italian Latin Studies Cultural Heritage Alliance” in 1969 (later shortened to “Cultural Heritage Alliance”).

Side by side for over three decades, Domenica and Augustine grew their company from a small local travel agency to the highly respected educational travel company that it is today, creating a national reputation as a leader in the educational travel field. Their daughter, Tina, joined her parents in the company after graduating from Bryn Mawr College. With Augustine’s death in 2003, Domenica assumed the role of CHA’s president.

After over four decades in business, and with CHA having arranged for over one million students and teachers from across the U.S. to travel the world, Falcione remains dedicated to and inspired by the impact that educational travel has on the lives of young Americans.
